A nice picture from this summer... Posted: 10/08/09 at 09:32PM This August, the crew of Woodstock-area bass builders was lucky enough to get a visit from Joe Perry and Jonathan Herrera, who are (respectively) the publisher and editor of Bass Player magazine. After a whirlwind day of shop visits, we all spent a couple of very pleasant hours at dinner at Woodstock's Bear Cafe. From left: Joe Veillette, Jonathan Herrera, Harvey Citron, Yours Truly, Stuart Spector, and Mike Tobias. Our very kind host Joe Perry is behind the camera. Thanks guys! |

Away for a bit...and the new model! Posted: 09/16/09 at 12:04PM I will be away from the shop until September 27th. Just to let you all know - I may not respond to any emails until after then. Until then, here's a long-overdue first look at the latest model. The Leo
Available in 4- or 5-strings, with many different pickup and control combinations. Of course, any color. "Studio" shots coming soon! |

Some new things in the works... Posted: 05/07/09 at 08:49PM Well, it's been a long time since the last update. What's my excuse? Well, I've been busy....:
For starters, a 'classic' J-styled Elfin bass, model name to-be-determined. There are two of these in progress, and they look and feel great! This one will be tobacco burst with a tortoise guard. The other one will be some solid color (undecided) with a black pearloid guard. These is not the only new things happening around here. I promise more updates soon as the other instruments get more photo-ready. Happy Spring! -Martin |

| Subject: | Nicholas D'Amato playing the Elfin! | | Posted: | 01/14/09 at 09:06PM |
I'm very pleased to have Nicholas D'Amato out and about playing his new Elfin 5-string. Nicholas is a staple of the NYC gig and session scenes, when he's not out touring with Poppa Chubby, Lizz Wright, or his own outstanding Royal Society (feat. Wayne Krantz on guitar).
Along with being an outstanding bassist, Nicholas is a real gentleman and a true professional. After working with the bass for a little while, he had this to say: "Man, just got home from a gig in the city with the Elfin. What a JOY it is to play it. I've now got some experience with it in varied settings and it has been a true partner in all of them. Also, I gotten nothing but enthusiastic feedback from band members and fans alike. Its definitely more "modern" sounding then what I've been using lately but I feel a real connection with the bass...a real sense of ease with it. The balance and playability are really something I don't want to live without ever again!" Thanks Nicholas! | Subject: | The Elfin Hollowbody Approaches... | | Posted: | 07/18/08 at 05:56PM |
It's so close, I can barely wait! Final finish topcoats are going on this weekend. This hollowbody is one of the strangest and most exciting things I've ever made. This prototype is a guitar for a very good friend. The next one will be a bass, probably fretless. Structurally, what's going on with the top is about as unusual as the whole look of the thing. More details will come later, but I'll say so far that the top can be 'loaded' or tensioned to suit the player and vary the response...essentially, it's a variable stiffness top. Like I said, I can't wait!

Two weeks off did some good - now, back to work! Coming up within a week or two - some sneak peeks of the most unusual thing I think I've ever made. This will be the prototype for the Elfin hollowbody, but it's not exactly like anything else out there. Keep checking back! Best, Martin |
